Past few weeks were a roller-coaster for metaLIFE team - talking with ever increasing number of you - our customers, dealing with news, feature requests, doing demos, helping new merchants/affiliates,  improving essential parts of our service and etc... Thanks to all who help us, greatly appreciated!

metaLIFE team has been examining & discussing lots of your requests (ohhh and they are MANY ) Since our hands are kind of tied right now - we had to choose ONE KEY area where We Can Do Most Good at the moment (until we can direct our FULL time and energy to metaLIFE - which will happen sometime around February, read explanation here)!

And NOW the KEY is: Commissions

and will fix it NOW..

Launching metaLIFE "ZERO":

1. metaLIFE will STOP taking commissions for web sales. Yes selling on the web marketplace is FREE starting now! 
2. Instead of our commission for web sales we will be paying flat 5% commission rate to the person (affiliate) who referred your customer to metaLIFE. (referring process is explained here just scroll to the bottom).
3. For Web sales - where Customer has NO referrer, Merchant takes all 100% home!

There I said it, no more confusion around web commissions - now it's as simple as that!

There are lots of people who refer shoppers to metaLIFE, so we want to compensate them for the effort they are putting, and we sincerely believe that as a merchant you will be happy to part with mere 5% commission payed to person who referred the Customer purchasing your items!

This means - some of the customers will be referred by metaLIFE team, but we hope most will be referred by you! This is an open market and now the most effective referrers will make the most income in a form of referring commission. So we (on equal terms) will be competing for referees with you guys and believe us - we will be happy to see you outrun us and make more money from referrals than us (we are in this for the long run, not make money quick)

What we heard from your Concerns

Lets examine them.. After reading/participating in lots of your posts on forums about commissions, we noticed your confusion about the system and your concerns that current commission system is not developed to fully meet your needs. As we read - your main concerns were:

• Major - it was confusing: primary affiliate vs secondary affiliate, inworld vs web, free sales vs non-free, etc...  Commissions were confusing, some of you even thought it was 14% instead of 10%.. My comment:  Yes agreed, it truly was too confusing.. 
• Second major - same commission in-world and on the web - is wrong: if you set your affiliate vendor commission (ex primary affiliate) to 50% as an example, then a referrer (some person who referred a customer to metaLIFE) will be getting that 50%, if the customer he referred purchases your items on the WEB. My Comment: Yes we acknowledge this doesn't make much sense..  You want to give 50% to your affiliates selling your items via the vendor they have rezzed on their LAND, not some person who referred a customer to metaLIFE, at some point in time!
• Third: You said 10% is not competitive across marketplace market... My comment: it was just our price for ALL sales across both inworld and web marketplaces, I guess for web sales it could have used a more competitive rate 

So metaLIFE "ZERO" solves all of these major concerns!

New Commission changes In essence

• Web commissions change: metaLIFE - gets 0%, Customer referrer gets 5%, Merchant gets 95% (100% in cases when customer does not have a referrer)
• InWorld Commissions stay as they were - where as merchant you decide how much commission you want to give to your affiliates for extra(gird-wide sales) and metaLIFE will take 10% off of that, and it stays FREE if you sell your own items via your own vendors!

Why are we doing this?

metaLIFE is concentrating on creating 2 marketplaces which are working as one. We hope make your life easier, by creating a single go-to place - spreading your content all across SL to thousands of connected portals (currently vendors and Shopping HUD's) and at the same time making your items available on the web marketplace. For inworld we will continue to take 10% commission for all extra sales made via the grid-wide network, yet for Web marketplace sales just became FREE.  We have ideas for new services, which will help us support metaLIFE in the future, so we are not much concerned about making money now! Starting NOW you are welcome to sell your items on metaLIFE website for FREE...
