For a Second Life business to grow - business owner needs to find ways to get their items out to the potential customers hands! There are few ways to do that:

What most content creators are good at - is content creation 
(that was a big brainer) and not so good at - is at marketing those products. Different mindset is needed to do those two tasks! That's why good musicians have their managers, that do the sales and contracts, musicians - just have to play good music, that's it!
Well same is with content Creation! If you have someone who can take care of your sales, all you have to do is make sure your items are worth buying!
On the other side - usually people who love to sell and create new connections, connect various people - become resellers/affiliates. These people are good at marketing/sales. So why not give affiliates the incentive to sell your items, sell for your brand? If people will like your products (if you have enough time to spend enough on making quality items) - affiliates will grow sales for you.
